Follow into the footsteps of the great explorer John Henning Speke and discover Speke Bay Lodge on the shores of Lake Victoria. The lodge is located on the south-eastern shore 15 km from the Ndabaka entrance to Serengeti National Park and 125 km north of Mwanza. It is an ideal place to start or end your safari or relax during your travels.

Our luxury safari lodge is built in traditional style to reflect the natural surroundings. It is set in 200 acres of land that over the years turned back into savanna, housing abundant bird life, various small mammals, bush buck, hippo’s and a resident crocodile.

The bar, restaurant and lounge are joined by a large terrace overlooking the lake. The restaurant offers a blend of international and Tanzanian cuisine and is specialised in fresh fish from the lake. If you prefer you can have breakfast on your bungalow´s terrace.

Excursions in boats or on mountain bikes are organised so you can get a flavour of the traditional African way of life. Guided  birdwalks on the surrounding savanna are also offered or you can wander around on your own, enjoying the garden whilst looking for birds.

Speke Bay Lodge is owned, built and run by two Dutch entrepreneurs for over 25 years. Because the owners live on the lodge and the company is small, there is a close relationship with the communities around the lodge. Staff and suppliers are from the area thus helping to develop the local economy. The lodge also built a local clinic and supports a nearby school

"During the sunsets, and they can be astonishing at times, both sky and lake glow together in a magnificent explosion of theatrical light"
